Creating and Adding Cubes

There are several ways to add cubes to the project. Click the "Add Cube" button on the Edit menu.  Alternatively, you can press the [SPACE] bar and the software will place a cube at the location of the cursor.

If you have an external MIDI keyboard, you can turn on "MIDI Add..." mode which will add a cube at the location of the cursor for each note you press on the MIDI keyboard.

Moving Cubes

To move a cube or cubes, click on it to select it.  Hold the mouse down and drag it up, down, left or right.  To move it in the Z-depth (front to back), hold down the Shift key and move up or down.  (Moving the mouse down moves the cube closer and moving the mouse up moves the cube farther away.)  Select multiple cubes to move them all at the same time.

Resizing Cubes

To re-size a cube, move the mouse to hover over the edge you'd like to re-size.  The cursor should turn into left/right or up/down arrow signifying that you can re-size it.  Hold the mouse down and drag up, down, left or right to re-size appropriately.  To re-size the cube in the Z-depth (front to back), hold down the Shift key and move the mouse up or down.   Select multiple cubes to re-size them all at the same time.

Selecting Cubes

The simplest way to select a cube is to click it with the mouse.  To select multiple cubes, hold the Ctrl key down and click cubes to select them.  To select many cubes at the same time, click the mouse on the 3D workspace area and drag over the cubes you'd like to select.  (A 3D blue rectangle will highlight to show your selection.  A cube must be fully contained within the selection rectangle in order to become selected.)

If you are trying to reach a cube that is hard to click, you can push the Tab key or hold down Shift-Tab to cycle through the cubes until reaching the desired cube.

To unselect all cubes, click away from any cube on an empty area. Shortcut: Esc key.

To select all cubes, push Ctrl+A.

Deleting Cubes

Select a cube and push the Delete key.  Alternatively, right click on the cube(s) and choose "Delete" from the menu.

Duplicating Cubes

The selected cubes may be duplicated by clicking the "Duplicate" menu item on the Edit menu or by right clicking and selecting "Duplicate".  The fastest way to duplicate the selected cubes is to hold down the Alt key and drag.  Once you start using the Alt-drag technique you'll never go back. :)

Scaling Cubes

Right click on a cube or selected cubes and choose "Scale By..."  A dialog window will prompt you to enter the scale amount.

Transposing Cubes

Right click on a cube or selected cubes and choose "Transpose By..."  A dialog window will prompt you to enter the number of half-steps to transpose the cubes.  (Note that this only affects cubes that have MIDI notes associated with them.) Shortcut: Ctrl+T

Editing Cubes

Of course, simply moving and resizing a cube isn't enough.  To edit what a cube does, select it and then click "Properties..." on the Edit menu.  Alternatively, right click on the cube(s) and select "Properties..." .  For those that like keyboard shortcuts, click Ctrl+P to bring up the Properties. Learn more about cube properties in the next help section.

Undo/Redo

Make a mistake?  Click "Undo" on the Edit menu or push Ctrl+Z.  Redo the action by clicking "Redo" on the Edit menu or push Ctrl+Y
